4 Helpful Steps on Creating An Internship
Do you want to host an intern, but not sure where to start? Follow the steps below. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Companies should assess their workforce needs and identify areas where interns can contribute meaningfully.
Clearly outline the skills, knowledge, and experiences interns will gain during their time with the company.
Craft detailed internship descriptions outlining roles, responsibilities, and desired qualifications. These descriptions will be shared with educational institutions and potential interns. Consider crafting a minimum of 3 learning objectives and how the intern can meet those goals. Make the learning objectives and time requirements suitable for a young adult.
Once we receive your internship description, we will contact you and help match you with an intern through our educational partners. Please contact us with any questions throughout the process.
Aspects of a Successful Internship Program
1
- Meaningful Projects and Tasks: Interns should have hands-on exposure to a career they could do in the future and/or an environment they may work in.
- Clear Learning Objectives: A successful internship program should have well-defined learning objectives that align with both the company's needs and the interns' educational goals -- a mutually beneficial experience.
- Structured Onboarding and Training: A brief onboarding process and ongoing training sessions help interns acclimate to the company culture, understand their roles, and acquire the necessary skills for success.
- Mentorship and Feedback: Assigning experienced employees as mentors provides interns with guidance and support. Regular feedback sessions help interns understand their strengths, areas for improvement, and overall progress, enhancing their professional development. Depending on the age of the intern, there may be a need to coach them on soft skills -- dress, business etiquette, behavior, etc.
